Last week I started on this deep burgundy Dahlia. Obviously it's still in the 'formative' stage. I generally use the most evident medium/dark colours as a base then once all the petals are coloured I can go around every single one, adding depth and contrast with darks and also lights. The picture is always so different at the beginning, when I just get started-but it has it's own ephemeral beauty that I now love to photograph and share.
